Things to buy in January

Certain items are cheaper at different times of the year, yet a lot of consumers think the only time to get a good deal is at the Black Friday Sales right after Thanksgiving.  While this can be a great time to pick up a new computer or electronics, it might not be the cheapest time of the year to purchase other items

If Christmas didn’t leave you destitute and you have accumulated a stash of gift cards, now might be the time to use them to stock up on your new wardrobe inventory.

Let’s take a look at the best items to purchase in January

Obviously Christmas decorations, holiday gift wrap, cards and ornaments are a no brainer, go ahead and stock them up for next year, (just don’t forget where you put them) you will get some great deals on those items

Christmas Decorations

These aren’t the only things you should be buying in January

Outerwear – Winter Clearances take place in early January as retail stores need to clear their racks to make room for their Spring apparel, you can get up to 70% off at some stores on Winter Boots, Outerwear and Winter Accessories like gloves and scarfs…look at store websites for major department stores like Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s (60% off Winter Break Sale), Nordstrom, Kohls, JCPenney, Target, Walmart, and even some smaller clothing stores like Torrid (up to 70% off), Cato, Shoe Carnival (67% off Winter clearance) will be marking down their winter stock, then marking them down again… When you think that a pair of winter boots can cost $80-200, that’s a pretty big saving or on Winter Coats that sometimes range around $200-300

Gym Memberships – Don’t buy them if you have zero intention of using them, but for those serious about kicking off the new year right, you can save a lot of money buying them in January.  Look for no or low sign up fees, some even offer the first 1-2 months free, shop around.  24HourFitness drop their rates in January.  If you would rather work out in the privacy of your own home (especially these days with prying cell phone camera’s, who wouldn’t), Gym Equipment is also cheaper December / January (Walmart sells Gold’s Gym Equipment at very affordable prices)

Valentine’s Day Gifts – Chocolates, flowers, jewelry are on sale towards the end of the month, make sure you cash in on free shipping and order your flowers early to avoid disappointment, also make any Restaurant reservations for Valentine’s Day, those that get in early get the best window seats and cozy booths (Don’t forget the 50 Shades sequel comes out at the movies in Feb, pre-order tickets are already on sale now)

TV’s – If you didn’t snag one at the Black Friday Sale in November, now is also a great time to buy your new big screen, as they are heavily reduced in time for the Superbowl

Bed Sheets / Linen – Since the 1800’s, January has been the month for “White Sales” where bedding is drastically reduced to make way for spring inventory (or though I secretly wonder if it might also be in preparation for Valentine’s Day hehe, sshh, did I say that aloud?)
